Medication Reminders

Taking medication as prescribed by your doctor is extremely important. Our nurses can come to your residence and organize your medications on a weekly or monthly basis. Non-adherence to a prescribed treatment has become a tremendous problem in the United States, causing thousands of premature deaths and demanding additional care that wouldn’t have been necessary. In fact, approximately $290-billion is spent each year due to patients not taking their medication as prescribed.

The statistics surrounding non-adherence are staggering:

  • Approximately 125,000 Americans die annually (342 people every day) due to poor medication adherence
  • 10 to 25 percent of hospital and nursing home admissions are caused by patients failing to take medications as directed by a physician
  • The medication non-adherence rates have remained stagnant for over 30 years! Recent statistical reviews show that upwards of 40 percent of patients still do not adhere to their treatment regimens
  • Up to 20 percent of all new prescriptions go unfilled.

Horizon Care Services’ nurses can help you organize your medications and put together a schedule that is simple and easy to follow, making sure that you never forget a medication!
